Papa's Candied Salt Pork (Easy)

Happy Sunday y'all! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

This morning I woke up craving a sweet and salty treat that would satisfy my taste buds. I contemplated on reaching for a delightful peanut butter bar that my roommate, Elise made last night but I decided to resist the temptation and fry up some candied salt pork instead. Great alternative right?

So let's get started! This recipe comes from my Papa, he was known for fryin' up some mean salt pork! It's super simple because you prepare it exactly like bacon just coat it in sugar once you pull it out of the grease. By the way salt pork is non-caloric so don't be afraid to coat that baby in some serious sugar!

Papa's candied salt pork prepared with breakfast.

Ingredients:

16 oz. Salt Pork

1/4 cup Sugar

Directions:

1. Thick slice the salt pork perpendicular to the fatty side.

2. Place in frying pan.

3. Fry until crisp.

4. Place on plate with paper towel to strain.

5. Coat strips with sugar or serve with sugar on the side for dipping.

Voila! Papa's candied salt pork!

Tip: Use the leftover drippings to fry your eggs or season your grits.

Hope y'all enjoy!
